WIC Program Highlight: New Pro Bono Team Guidelines and Templates

When I first joined the Women in Consulting (WIC) team, we had roughly 24 contributors. Today, we have 60+ team members who help deliver our diverse programs. With this momentous growth, we realized that more formal processes and templates were necessary to guide our contributors and ensure they had the resources and tools they needed to do their jobs with minimal stress.

So…in 2010, we created a pro bono director to oversee the recruiting process and put into place the necessary resources. The result: a new pro bono welcome kit and process document that is sure to be a hit with both individual contributors and directors alike.

The Scoop

Deborah Hoard stepped into this new role and ran with it, creating all of the guidelines and templates WIC’s pro bono team needs to function smoothly. The new Welcome Packet and process document contains everything a new contributor and her director needs, from job descriptions and best practices to training plans and strategic planning templates.

She even completed samples of each one, so other directors didn’t have to start from scratch when filling out the forms for their own teams. I’m beyond certain these resources will make everyone’s job a lot easier and clearer as we move towards 2011.

But that’s not all. She also developed the concept for our upcoming Pro Bono Fair and will be its main orchestrator at this Thursday’s WIC general meeting; and she’s working with the marketing team to create a series of pro bono success stories that will demonstrate the “networking on steroids” power that joining WIC’s pro bono team does for your business.

With Much Gratitude

The following are the people to thank the next time you see or talk to them:

  • Deborah Hoard, WIC pro bono director and founder of Net Results
  • Deb McClanahan, WIC’s secretary and communications director and principal of BroadBand HR Consulting, keeps WIC’s org chart up to date

More Things to Come

Writing these blog posts is easy and difficult at the same time. The easy part: finding good things about WIC’s hard working team. The difficult part: deciding who to feature each month, as I have so many dedicated contributors to choose from, like the pro bono team this month, and the Web, membership, and Facebook teams in prior months. With 60+ members on our team, all of whom are successful consultants, it’s easy to see why both are the case. Let the contemplation begin. 🙂
