WIC and Second Harvest Food Bank: The Gold Standard

This past holiday season, Women in Consulting (WIC) hosted its Second Annual WIC Gives Back Food and Fund Drive. This event is near and dear to my heart and tons of fun to participate in—so much so, I hope we do it every year.

The fun starts with sorting and packing food at Second Harvest (below is this year’s team), where we laugh and joke while filling LOTS of boxes. Every time Second Harvest is amazed by how much we can get done—no underachievers in our group. 😉

It continues as we see the donation barometer climb—did you know that every $240 donated equals one barrel of food—and then have the honor of attending the thank you dinner that Second Harvest hosts every year. And it crescendos when we receive the thank you letter, letting us know how much the entire drive raised that season. This year it was $11.3 million dollars and 1.6 million pounds of food!!

So, please accept my heartfelt thank you for contributing to this drive every year—or as Second Harvest says, “Thank you for sharing our vision of freedom from hunger!”

It really does make a difference. And your contribution places WIC in very good company! This year, we received the Gold Award for our efforts, along with other companies/organizations like ABC-7, Cadence Design Systems, E*Trade, Hitachi Data Systems, Informatica, and Stanford University School of Medicine, to name a few.

You gals rock!
