Whether you’re a consultant or you work for a company, it’s not uncommon to outgrow an organization that suited you well early in your career. At Women in Consulting (WIC) that’s not the case – and it’s one of the things I love about WIC. Roughly five years ago the WIC board decided it wanted to ensure senior consultants had a place in the organization that helped then strategize and wrestle with the challenges related to running a mature business. And thus the germ of an idea was … [Read more...]
WIC Program Highlight: 2010 in Review

Every year, WIC sends out 120+ holiday cards to the people who contributed their time to helping make WIC a success. Half of those people have regular, ongoing jobs with WIC — 63 to be exact. Yes, it takes that many people to make things happen, because no one on the team, save our association manager, gets paid to do the jobs they hold. So, we need to share the wealth, so to speak. But it also takes this many people, because the team does in incredible amount of work. I never cease to be … [Read more...]
WIC Program Highlight: Loads of New Partnerships, Benefits, and Opportunities

For more years than I can remember, WIC has partnered with some great organizations and companies in order to offer our members additional benefits. Every year since we formed our partnership team, those involved always did a fantastic job. This past year was extraordinary both in terms of the number of new partnerships and overall program — and the fact that we had an itty bitty team of people doing all that work. The Scoop The first half of 2010 was a transition time in partnerships, as … [Read more...]
WIC Program Highlight: New Pro Bono Team Guidelines and Templates
When I first joined the Women in Consulting (WIC) team, we had roughly 24 contributors. Today, we have 60+ team members who help deliver our diverse programs. With this momentous growth, we realized that more formal processes and templates were necessary to guide our contributors and ensure they had the resources and tools they needed to do their jobs with minimal stress. So…in 2010, we created a pro bono director to oversee the recruiting process and put into place the necessary resources. … [Read more...]
WIC Program Highlight: New Facebook Welcome Page
The WIC Program Highlights are fast becoming my favorite posts to write on the Women in Consulting (WIC) blog – just like the companion “Thank You” highlights I have the privilege of doing at the beginning of each general meeting are my favorite meeting “task.” Why? Because everyone who delivers these programs gives freely of their time to help make WIC a success, which certainly makes my job a heck of a lot easier as well. :-) Since WIC is a nonprofit, with a very small operating … [Read more...]
WIC Program Highlight: Monthly WIC Member Orientation and Welcome to WIC (W2W)

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Women in Consulting’s (WIC) organizational structure, WIC is an all-volunteer organization, except for the person who manages our administrative office. And the programs this amazing team collectively puts together are, well, amazing. Two shining examples of this are the Welcome to WIC (W2W) and member orientation programs developed by the membership and pro bono teams. … [Read more...]
WIC Program Highlight: New WIC Website
Roughly a month ago, Women in Consulting's (WIC) Web team launched a new website. Now launching a new site can be a time-consuming and daunting task for teams whose primary focus is maintaining an organization's website. But when you're doing it as a side gig -- and pro bono yet! -- it adds a whole other element to the picture. I'm beyond grateful to the efforts put forth by WIC's online marketing team to create such a fabulous new site for WIC and its members. They poured their creative … [Read more...]
